abstract – aluminium 7075- t651 alloys are widely used in the production of light weight structures requiring a high strength to weight ratio and high corrosion resistance. the effect of processing parameters on fatigue life of 7075- t651 aluminium joints produced by friction stir welding was investigated in the present study. welding samples were made by employing rotating tool speed of 770, 900 and 1200 r.p.m, welding speeds of 70, 75 and 80 mm/min. after welding process, mechanical properties of samples were evaluated by means of fatigue testing machine at room temperature. results were clearly illustrated that as tool speed increases, fatigue life decreases. the highest fatigue life was obtained with 80mm /min welding feed and weld speed of 1200 r.p.m

Tensile properties and fracture locations of friction-stir-welded joints of 2017-T351 aluminum alloy

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a new and promising welding process that can produce low-cost and high-quality joints of heat-treatable aluminum alloys because it does not need consumable filler materials and can eliminate some welding defects such as crack and porosity. In order to demonstrate the friction stir weldability of the 2017-T351 aluminum alloy and determine optimum welding parameters...

Fatigue of Friction Stir Welded 2024-T351 Aluminium Alloy

Fatigue failure characteristics of friction stir welds in 13mm gauge 2024-T351 plate have been assessed. Failure occurred from either the weld region (nugget/flow arm) or from the material immediately surrounding the weld. Fatigue failure from the surrounding material was essentially conventional, initiating from large S-phase intermetallic particles and growing in a macroscopic mode I manner. ...

Improving Mechanical Properties of PVPPA Welded Joints of 7075 Aluminum Alloy by PWHT

In this study, 7075 aluminum alloy with a thickness of 10 mm was successfully welded with no obvious defects by pulsed variable polarity plasma arc (PVPPA) welding. The mechanical properties of PVPPA welded joints have been researched by post weld heat treatment (PWHT). The results indicate that the heat treatment strongly affects the mechanical properties of the welded joints. The tensile stre...

Effect of Heat Input on Tensile Properties of Friction Stir Welded AA6061-T6 and AA7075-T6 Dissimilar Aluminum Alloy Joints

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid state process widely used to join dissimilar aluminium alloys. High quality and strength joints can be fabricated using this technique when compared to other conventional methods. The welding parameters play major role in determining the quality of the weld. This paper aims in presenting the effect of heat input on tensile properties of the joints between ...

Fatigue Life of Repaired Welded Tubular Joints

In this study, the effect of repair on fatigue life of tubular joints is investigated. Six cracked specimens precedently subjected to fatigue loading undergone to weld repair. Two of those specimens were shot peened before primary fatigue loading.  It is shown that repair gives rise to about 150% increase in fatigue life for original specimens while the increase of fatigue life for shot-peened ...

Automatic seam-tracking of friction stir welded T-joints

In this research, a method for implementing automatic seam-tracking for friction stir welding, referred to hear as WeaveTrack, is presented. In this extrumum-seeking control technique, the tool weaves back and forth during welding to maintain the location where axial force is greatest, which is shown to be the center of the weld. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of this technique in tracki...
